I used to choose my books based on pictures of the book cover. Of course, I grew up and realized I shouldn’t judge books by their pictures.
Like any other avid reader, we look at reviews online from bestsellers to whole lists of different genres. I also have quite a few friends who introduce me to new book series and new authors I’ve never heard of. For example, a friend of mine recently gave me her copy of American Panda by Gloria Chao, and I simply adored it. You can check out my Goodreads review here!
Another friend of mine started me on the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas., and I was instantly hooked. I bought all 7 books in a span of 5 months during school. If you know this series, they are quite dense (as paperbacks) but one of the greatest series of books that I have read in a while.
I also choose my next read based on where I purchase the book. There are only 3 places where I purchase books: Walmart, Indigo Chapters, and any of the big 3 thrift stores in Canada. I spend an average of 2 hours browsing at each one.
Most of the time, I just go with my gut feeling. I read the back and with any hint of heroism, a dystopian future, or adventure, with a hint of romance, it captures both my eye and my wallet.
How do you choose your next read?
